HFCS Does Not Increase Liver Fat

This is one study that we must question. The doctor doing this study is heavily influenced by his position since, “He is an advisor to the food and beverage industry and has received unrestricted educational grants from the Corn Refiners Association.”
Since high fructose corn syrup is a product of industries represented by the Corn Refiners Association, we know that this study is quite likely biased and may well be rigged in results.

Rigged, yes, in a study only lasting 10 weeks, we must question the validity of the findings. This is not a length that would give other than the findings reported. A study lasting for one year or more would have given more trustworthy results, but would have done more harm to the participants.

Therefore, I can only say this is another junk science study and done by a person heavily indebted to the Corn Refiners Association. This is another of those studies that should have never made it into print. The study was done by James Rippe, MD, professor of biomedical sciences at the University of Central Florida and a paid consultant for the Corn Refiners Association.

This Is Inflammatory Junk Science

I must tip my hat to Dr. Bill Quick for his blog earlier today on Health Central. Please read his blog. I had thought something was wrong with this study, but I am still waiting for a reply from Prof Craig Currie of Cardiff University School of Medicine. Whether I receive a copy of the study now makes no difference, and Dr, Quick confirms what I had thought about the study.

Angry – yes, but I cannot be as polite as Dr. Quick. To me this study is just what the title says. For this to be reported by one of the top Universities in the United Kingdom is not saying much about the medical school.

Two other press releases can be read here and here, but Dr. Quick sums up the faults of the study very succinctly. Therefore I ask you to read his blog and I'll be quiet. The last link in the first sentence of this short paragraph is also a link in Dr. Quick's blog.

The Longer You Have Diabetes the Higher are Cancer Risks

Shouldn't this also be the older you become the higher your risks for cancer become? In other words, I don't think this is groundbreaking research. This is part of life whether this researcher believes it or not. This study is so full of flaws it should not even have been published or even funded. To begin with increased urinary track cancer could have been caused by those using Actos, but this is not mentioned. In fact, all they were concerned about were individuals who were reported as being on insulin, which leaves prior oral medications with supposedly no effect on the increasing rate of cancer. Another example of our taxpayer dollars being wasted.

At least, “Dr. Li warned that caution is required in interpreting these results. "This is a population-based epidemiologic study. The findings are useful in hypothesis screening for the possible association between diabetes and cancer [but] should not be overgeneralized to clinical practice or individual patients."”

This is a good example of junk science and I will leave it there. I feel that you need to know this and that is the reason for the short blog.
